About the Artist:
Russell Cheney (1881–1945) was an American post-impressionist painter who was celebrated for his vivid landscapes, expressive still life, and New England-inspired scenes. A Yale graduate and student of the Art Students League, Cheney’s work blends traditional subjects with modernist color and emotion. He is also remembered as part of early LGBTQ+ history through his lifelong partnership with literary scholar F.O. Matthiessen. Cheney's art holds a unique place in American modernism and queer cultural heritage.
